REPAI – Responsible AI for Value Creation project is dedicated to positioning Denmark at the global forefront of responsible and impactful AI development.

At REPAI, we aim to offer new insights, foster a shared interdisciplinary language, and propose necessary updates to existing AI legislation. By examining real-world use cases, our goal is to assist private companies and public organizations in building trusted, ethical, and compliant AI solutions. We are committed to advancing interdisciplinary collaboration, benefiting the next generation of researchers, and influencing our students who will propagate our findings and values into society.
An article was written in 2023 to share more details about the project, and you can read it here.

Our Approach
True interdisciplinary collaboration hinges on three key principles:
- Collective Work on Real-World Cases: Researchers from diverse fields work together on practical, real-world problems, rather than speculative scenarios.
- Physical Proximity: Researchers sit together, facilitating seamless knowledge exchange and viewpoint sharing.
- Iterative Learning: An ongoing, adaptive process that builds a shared understanding and language across disciplines.
REAL-WORLD IMPACT
REPAI deals with profiling and the ability to predict or categorize individuals and their actions.
Our initial use cases include:
- Video Surveillance on the harbor front in collaboration with Milestone Systems.
- AI in Eldercare in partnership with Aalborg Municipality.
These use cases are chosen for their potential to create value, intersect with regulations and public opinion, making them ideal for our interdisciplinary approach.
LONG-TERM IMPACT
REPAI aims to shape the future of AI in several impactful ways:
- Value Creation: Enhancing the capabilities of private and public sectors in developing regulatory-compliant AI, positioning Denmark as a leader in responsible AI.
- Policy Influence: Assisting policymakers in Denmark and the EU in refining AI regulations to balance business needs, ethical considerations, and public trust.
- Education: Inspiring and educating the next generation of AI researchers and developers to focus on responsible AI solutions rooted in interdisciplinary research.
Agile and Adaptive
In response to the rapid evolution of AI, our center operates with agility and is structured into eight six-month periods. The specifics of each period are defined at the end of the previous one and approved by our steering committee, ensuring we stay responsive and relevant in the fast-moving AI landscape.
